Gold leaf (leaf-gold):
-    Very thin (usually a few microns) leaves of gold or plated gold on silver base ( a double). Articles are covered by them to decorate.
-    Leaves of metals, alloys or chemical compounds that imitate gold. For example, an alloy of copper with zink or silver with aluminium, which are painted with transparent yellow lacquer after the leaves of metals have been fixed on the articles.

The term  “Gold leaf” - “susalne zoloto” comes from “susalo” – “face”.  Gold leaf has been well-known for over 5500 years. It is made of monolithic gold into superfine leaves. It is highly appritiated for its beauty and resistance to weather impact. Gold leaf is used for architectural decorations, embossed books, furniture and interior decoration. The process of covering with Gold leaf is called gilding. While producing the works a master faces various nuances. So, his being highly skilled is an essential part of success.
 

Gilding.

Gilding is an ancient technique that has been consolidated with secular experience. It demands as much ability as patience – before one starts pasting of gold leaves he has to take a lot of set-up actions. The quality and how tight-fitting the gold leaves are completely depend on how thoroughly all that preliminary work is done.

Gold leaves that are made by rolling or smithery are 4-8 microns thick. It allows them to fit tightly all tiny details of the surface. Gold leaves are sold in the forms of books. You mustn’t touch them in no circumstances.
